Master List of Recs

Add to Memories Share
New Kirk and Spock
Welcome! I read, therefore I rec. Fanfic enriches my life considerably, and I like to both return and pass on the favor with feedback and recs, as I discuss in a post on the art of fanfiction reviewing.

The new Star Trek movie just knocked me back and has brought me full circle back to where I began in fandom, and I'm sure I'll rec ST fics on my writing journal, [info]regan_v regularly from now on. But I also wanted to make a journal where I could consolidate all those recs and make them easily accessible, like the [info]snarry_reader (which I co-mod) does for Snape/Harry. Hence, this journal.

I'll start with a small set of recs, and grow this list over time. This list reflects mostly my own tastes, of course, and there are plenty of stories I've bookmarked to read later. In order to keep up with the torrent of stories and art that have been appearing, I have also incorporated some recs from the marvelous [info]meri_oddities, who gave me permission to grab some of her recs, and add them to this list.

Enjoy!

With thanks to [info]pir8fancier, who passed this one on to me:

Repeat Offender, by [info]seperis. Kirk/Spock, NC 17. Warnings: Implied past child abuse, off-screen death of tertiary character.

This is beautifully written. Spock comes to bail Kirk out of yet another bar fight, but there are layers of past history and unspoken exchanges, beneath the surface, that this story evokes lightly and deftly. Characterization and voice for both Kirk and Spock is so fine I wanted to weep; I can't recall the last time I read a story that nailed Spock's voice this well. Don't miss this one, even if K/S isn't your normal thing.

Recs Update

New Kirk and Spock
Yes, I'm still around. Went to Azkatraz and sort of fell back into HP fics for a while, but I realized I had some ST recs piling up that I wanted to share. I'll be adding these to my Master List when I get a chance.

and some new recs are under the cut. Well, not all that new, since they've been piling up. But they might be new for you, y'know )

Here's a thimble-full of recs for stories from the waterfall of stories flowing by. Some are from Meri Oddities, who's sharing hers with me, and some are my own.

And yet, it's only a thimbleful from the waterfall I see flowing through on my flist.

Here's the next batch I'll be adding to my Master List.

Diplomatic Efforts by [info]ninhursag. Kirk/various OMC. Hookerfic, with the associated consent issues. The Admiralty hits on the tactic of whoring Kirk out for a diplomatic mission. I loved how this didn't glamorize what turned out to be a rather brutal encounter. Instead, it uses the scenario to develop Kirk, Spock, Uhura, and McCoy just perfectly. Yeah, Kirk would absolutely think this way, and Spcok and Uhura would both react as they do here. The story manages to pull out a satisfying ending, too. Clever and great characterization, but don't read if forced sex bothers you.

Four People James T. Kirk Never Told (and three that he did) by [info]ninhursag. Gen, but not the soft, fuzzy kind. Why the hell did you think Kirk stole his stepfather's car? As a response to something pretty damn awful, is this fic's answer. I love this story's clear-eyed, unsparing look at the ways that early sexual abuse would have shaped Kirk. And how Kirk gets his own back. But no, don't read this if (off stage) noncon would bother you.

Downloaded by Ennyousai. Gen, BSG/Star Trek crossover. McCoy is the seventh Cylon, as it turns out. This works beautifully for both canons, and it makes you feel how complicated it must be to be a Cylon, some days. I hope this gets a sequel.

Untitled by [info]ennyousai_fic. PG, Kirk/McCoy. McCoy suddenly acquires an ability to read minds. Fluffy, but it works quite well.

Not Part of the Plan, by [info]pervyficgirl. R, Kirk/McCoy. As a commander, Kirk has to learn to deal with casualties. McCoy already knows how to handle it when you've lost people. This story is quiet, and effective, and it shows you exactly why Kirk would be lucky to have McCoy in his life.

TwitterEnterprise by [info]misfit_fandoms. Gen, Humor. A long string of twitter updates with STIX and TOS characters. The attention to detail here is stunning, and this captures their voices beautifully in Twitter-sized chunks. Incredibly funny.

Body Art by [info]florahart. Kirk/McCoy, NC-17. Established relationship, and the make-up sex is clearly amazing.

Here's a list of recs I added recently to the Master List on this site; they're separated so that you can sort out what's new from what you already saw there.

Although I am falling further and further behind in terms of even making a dent in the stories that appear on my flist. In part, this is because RL has been happening, lately. But mostly it's because the torrent of Star Trek fanfic and art is, if anything, speeding up.

Have I mentioned how freakin' marvelous that is? Anyway, more ST recs under the cut )

Updates Added to the Master List

New Kirk and Spock
And . . . . *drumroll* . . . . for this most recent batch of updates to the Star Trek Reboot Master List of Recs, I want to thank the lovely and generous [info]meri_oddities, who gave me permission to grab and add some of her recs to my own new recs list.

Seriously, no one. No one. Can keep up with the flood of fic. It was time to draw on the expertise of a second rec'er. Especially because Meri can bring some of the het recs to the yard. And those who know me know you don't see very much het rec'ed on my journal; certainly not as much as the large number of good Spock/Uhura stories surely deserve. But Meri has supplied some very nice het recs to round out the list.

We talked about it, and agreed that we have never seen anything like the flood of fic that has been pouring through our flists, these last few weeks. Not after any previous new canon appeared. Gorgeous. Outstanding. Keep it up!

and the long list of new recs is under the cut )
